Holy Musical B@man
It premiered on Youtube on 13th April 2012 (and I had to wait 2 days before seeing it, then stayed awake throughout the whole night but I'm not complaining it was totally worth it and I'm gonna start putting relevant info soon, sorry).
The synopsis: Holy musical, Batman! It's time for crime-fighting shenanigans with everyone's second favorite superhero (right after Spider-Man). After witnessing the murder of his parents, a young billionaire makes a solemn vow to dress up like a bat
and wage a one-man war on the rouges of Gotham. So get ready to see the Dark
Knight the way you always dreamed of... singing and dancing!.
Written by Matt and Nick Lang (and directed by them both as well).
Music by Nick Gage and Scott Lamps.
Choreography by Katie Spielman.
Set design by Corey Lubowich.
Costumes by June Saito (yes, she's to thank for all the spandex!)
The cast:
Joe Walker - Batman, Chilly Willy
Brian Holden - Superman, Evil Huckleberry Finn, Clark Kent
Nick Lang - Robin, Barack Obama, Random Mobster
Jeff Blim - Sweet Tooth, Guy at the beginnning who kills Batman's parents (apparently called Joe Chill), Aquaman
Dylan Saunders - Green Lantern, Narrator (AKA main guy who sings theme song), Scarecrow, Gangster, Construction Worker, Egghead, Gob
Lauren Lopez - Commissioner Gordan, Calender Man, Evil King Arthur, Green Arrow
Nick Strauss - Penguin, Police Chief O'Hara,Thomas Wayne, Mr. Mxyzptlk, Captain Marvel
Chris Allen - Alfred/Lucius Fox/O'Malley/Qwang Li/Spider-Man, Two-Face, Gangster
Jaime Lyn Beatty - Poison Ivy, Candy, Gangster, The Flash
Meredith Stepien - The Riddler, Rachel Dawes, TGI Fridays Worker, Specs, Chase Meridian, Wonder Woman, Hostage
Denise Donovan - Catwoman, Pizza guy, Black Canary
Julia Albain - Vicki Vale, Evil Mother Goose, Zatanna, Martha Wayne
Nico Ager - Sherlock Holmes, Sluggers, Citizen, Storekeeper, Plastic Man
Jim Povolo - Mr. Freeze, Matches, Hawkman, Photoshop Downloader, Joe
Now, what about some fun trivia!
-There was originally meant to be a joke, after Brian came in as Superman being held up by Jim Povolo, that Jim would put him down and then fly away on a zipwire.
-Denise Donovan was determined to play Catwoman, because when she was younger she never got the chance (she said it at C2E2 if you want to know more)
-Something I think a lot of StarKids know anyway, there was a no-spoilers agreement that had to be signed before people saw the show live. And whether because of that or just fan loyalty, not a single spoiler was leaked from the first showing to the moment it went up on Youtube (if there were any spoilers then they didn't reach many people).
-Barack Obama is the president in the play (2008-). But in Act 1 Part 3, Alfred says the line 'When is a young, handsome man gonna meet friends in the year 1997?'. So... Just a thing I noticed.
-They all wear Converse (which I'm sure you all noticed!). Except possibly Chris Allen, who is either wearing normal black trainers, or black Converse with black laces.
-The Converse boots are awesome, just saying.
-Especially Jaime's.
-There was one point in the production, after Chilly Willy had been killed, that Joe Walker ran to get a beer. Yes, ladies and... hopefully some gentlemen there too, Joe Walker ran out in the middle of a performance in a penguin suit, to the nearest Whole Foods, to buy a beer. And I reckon he had no more than 4 minutes to do so.
